I mention them because the 4 domains of language should be considered as a whole. You might think why I am mentioning reading and writing when you have asked us about speaking and listening. I have my personal routine where I try to write a book-review for all the Norwegian books which I have read. While I did not memorize all the unknown vocabularies, I tried to suck in as much as possible. I read a lot, and just tried to get as much as input as possible. Well, I took the Norwegian courses while doing my master's here, so that is pretty much how I began learning the language. Just download Norwegian-English and English-Norwegian attachments. If you want to translate individual words, I personally like "Dictionary for Samsung", you can find it on Galaxy Store. I was once writing an assignment on what my family did in WW2, I wanted to write that my great-great-grandmother was a casualty of war, and Google Translate translated "casualty" to "havari". There have been some funny translations tho. Even though it's not 100% correct in 100% of cases, it's quite good. The translator I used was good old-fashioned Google Translate.

But being at this point allowed to start watching Norwegian TV shows, and content in Norwegian in general, which was the point when I noticed drastic improvements. It took me about 7 months to get to that point, although keep in mind that it was a far cry from understanding everyone perfectly, I still struggled from time to time. I used what I learned to start communicating with my Norwegian teacher in my mandatory basic Norwegian classes, and after a while, I was able to understand others.

I started going to high school here, which also really helped me with immersion. After that, I would watch American TV shows with Norwegian subtitles, but I would pause the whole time and really analyze the subtitles, you know, note the sentence structure, the vocabulary, grammar, absorb it all in. I began my journey with Duolingo (as most people do), but Duoligno is only useful for about a month.
